[Gist of the invitation for public contribution to the research grant]

1. Objectives of furtherance
The furtherance is aimed to further the following researches, to intend to sustain and promote health of the nation, and to contribute to realization of a more vigorous, exuberant economic society.

(1) Medical and pharmaceutical researches on the sustainment and promotion of health.
(2) Scientific researches on the promotion of health, predominantly involving exercise.


2. Subjects of furtherance
Persons who have researched the themes belonging to the following subjects of research and have gained recommendation from the head of the department of the institution or the head of the institution to which the applicant is affiliated.
(1) Medical and pharmaceutical researches on the sustainment and promotion of health

Subject No. 1 : Research on sustainment of functions of the musculo-skeletal system and connective tissue
Subject No. 2 : Basic research on health of the skin and on prevention of the aging thereof
Subject No. 3 : Research on the in vivo kinetics of drugs and other substances due to decreased function, interindividual difference, etc.
(2) Research on the science on health promotion, predominantly involving exercise

Subject No. 4 : Research on health promotion, chiefly involving exercise

3. Amount of the research grant
Total amount: 40,000,000 yen.
The standard amount of grant for one research is 1,000,000 yen.


4. Costs subject to delivery
Costs to purchase the articles which are directly required for research and other costs required to promote research.


5. Qualification for applicants
Applicants under 45 years old as of the date of application.

1. Subjects of furtherance
Persons who conduct research which complies with the same objectives as those of the above-mentioned research grant, who have gained recommendation from the head of department of the institution or the head of the institution to which the applicant is affiliated, and who initiates research between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011 at an institute in Japan or abroad for a period of 1 year or longer (however, the applicant should be affiliated to an institution which is located in Japan only).

2. Amount of the grant for research abroad
Total amount: 4,000,000 yen.
The following amounts of grant are stipulated for each research: 500,000 yen for one research in Japan or abroad.

3. Costs subject to delivery
Costs which are directly required for the research, e.g., traveling costs and hotel expenses of the applicant in question.

4. Others
Attach a copy of the consent form emitted by the organization which will accept the applicant, if available.

5. Qualification for applicants
Applicants under 35 years old as of the date of application.

[Gist of the invitation for public contribution to the
grant for the exchange of international researches]

1. Objectives of furtherance
Research grants are offered to promote the invitation of foreign researchers with high international reputation, conducting research with the same objectives as those of the above-mentioned research grants, as well as the exchange, guidance or publication of research through dispatch of Japanese scholars or researchers to foreign countries, etc. (However, participation in academic or research conventions or symposiums is excepted.)

2. Subjects of furtherance
Persons who have gained recommendation from the recommender similar to the grant for research abroad and who initiate research between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011.

3. Amount of the grant for the exchange of international researches
Total amount: 2,000,000 yen .
The following standard amounts of grant are established: 1,000,000 yen for one invitation; and 1,000,000 yen for one expedition.

4. Costs subject to delivery
Costs which are directly required for the exchange of international researches, e.g., traveling costs and hotel expenses of the scholar or researcher in question.

5. Others
Attach a copy of the consent form of the organization which will accept the scholar or researcher, if available.

6. Qualification for applicants
Applicants regardless of age.

[Methods and procedures of application]

Method of application
The application forms specified by The Nakatomi Foundation, should be filled out and submitted to the liaison office of the foundation.
Please download the application forms from the list.
Multiple applications by a single appliacant are not acceptable and the recipients of our fund during the past 3 years are not eligible for another application.
We accept the applications submitted by several applicants from one research institute.

Closing date
The application forms should be postmarked not later than September 30, 2009.

Notification of the acceptance or rejection
January 31, 2010.

Request for the specified application forms
A request should be made by mail, using a postal card, or by facsimile, stating the category of application, as well as the address, name, postal code and telephone number of the applicant.
